WIP Wednesday...

 It's the perfect week for a WIP Wednesday! I just got back from a 10 day vacation, and I need to wrap my head around where my projects stand.

I had some fun with these crazy girls - and they both had birthdays to celebrate - so we had some partying too!

For the past several years I've made them birthday pillows - my pattern in the Martingale book Sew the Perfect Gift. This year I forgot to make new ones and they reminded me that they're not 5 and 3 any more. So the first thing I did when I got home was make new pillow covers...

Another project I'm ready to get back to is my On a Whim quilt. I'm using Florence by Denyse Schmidt. Twelve blocks are done - just 8 more to go!

I also started a new quilt this week! A Tumbler quilt has been on my to-do list especially after seeing Candace's "For the Birds" version. Yesterday I pulled some fabrics in happy colors of aqua, navy, green, pink and gray. I'm using this big print from Gracie Girl as my color inspiration and thinking it may make the perfect backing fabric.

The cutting went super quick using the "Crumbler", a nifty ruler from Carrie Nelson at Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. I think I'm ready to start sewing!

And finally, my October Lucky Stars BOM. This may be my favorite one so far :)

Love to Boston and a giveaway...

My contribution to the Boston Modern Quilt Guild's Quilts For Boston campaign is this block, called "Heart All Around". It's found in the latest (vol. 7) Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine, block #688.

I was honored again to have my block included in Vol. 7 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks. I decided not to participate in the blog hop this time as the timing coincided with the new grandson. My block is #675, "Spinwheel". There's a mock-up of the blocks set together in the magazine and it looks awesome. I think it would be great very scrappy! You could even use leftover triangle cutoffs!

Also whipped up this week - a tooth pillow - yup! she has her first wiggly tooth!

And I totally fell for the Steam Punk quilt along. I love this retro-looking block and have pulled some funky, retro inspired fabrics!

Baby Sewing...

We're all getting pretty excited about the new baby coming in about 7 weeks. (yes, we're counting) I've done a lot of sewing for my first grandson in the past few weeks. The inspiration fabric was a Moda line called Apple Jack. It has some beautiful colors and the girls are already having fun with the i-spy, ABC fabric.

Two floor pillows for the sisters to sit on in the baby's room (although I'm wondering if there may be some migration into their own rooms). These take only 1 yard of fabric each and some piping. Free tutorial: Floor cushion

A divided storage basket....

There are tons of free tutorials for these, but this one is a nice size (easily holds diapers) and I like the divider. Pattern: Divided Basket by Noodlehead

This would look more interesting if I had a crib - but it's a simple pleated crib skirt. Free pattern: Pleated Crib Skirt

My daughter chose the BreathableBaby mesh crib liner. I spruced it up with fabric binding and ties.

The baby quilt...

And a lap quilt for the Mama to use on chilly nights. Thank you to all of you for your encouraging comments on my big mistake. I've embraced the imperfection and am so pleased with the quilt. The pattern is by Lee from Freshly Pieced and included in the new book Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe. I reduced the size a bit and added a little more negative space on each side. 

It's quilted with machine guided wiggly lines, backed in Simply Color Sprigs and bound in solid aqua.

 And last but not least the baby shoes. Pattern: Reversible Baby shoes
